About the Armed Force Recognition Luncheon

For 36 years, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce has joined with the business community to recognize and honor American service men and women assigned to units in Aurora, Denver Metro area and throughout Northern Colorado. This prominent event, coordinated by The Chamber Defense Council, not only recognizes the growing number of active duty service members in the area, it also reaches out to those who serve in the National Guard and the Reserve. The event includes an award ceremony for our Military Persons of the Year–11 individuals who have been selected for their outstanding achievements throughout the past year.  Military units and their commanders work closely with the Chamber Defense Council to select the top junior enlisted Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard individual including Guard and Reserve components serving in the area.  In addition, one civilian is singled out for the prestigious Bob Cardenas Award honoring a person who has made extraordinary contributions to building greater understanding and support of the military in the Metro area.  

Last year’s Armed Forces Recognition Luncheon was held on May 15, the day before Armed Forces Day. The Northrop Grumman-sponsored event kicked off with a formal flag ceremony and was hosted by popular KEZW Radio personality Rick Crandall who also heads the Colorado Freedom Memorial project in Aurora. With more than 700 people in attendance full A-V coverage sponsored by TriWest Healthcare Alliance, ensured the crowd was able to follow all the activities of the event. Additional event support was provided by a prominent local company, Adolfson & Peterson Construction.
