October’s Defense Council was hosted by the 140^th Wing, Colorado Air National Guard (COANG), Buckley AFB, CO, with breakfast sponsored by Visit Aurora. Colonel Brian “Ike” Turner, 140^th Wing Commander, provided an overview of the missions of the COANG.

These missions include Homeland Defense, overseas deployments, and disaster/emergency responses in Colorado and throughout the U.S. The COANG was established in 1923 and was the very first Air National Guard recognized unit. Throughout its history, the Wing has been involved in all major conflicts and contingency operations – deploying hundreds of Airmen all over the world, protecting and supporting our nation, state, and local community in times of need.
