October’s Defense Council was hosted by the 140th Wing, Colorado Air National Guard (COANG), Buckley AFB, CO, and breakfast was sponsored by Visit Aurora.
Colonel Brian “Ike” Turner, 140th Wing Commander provided an excellent overview of the various missions of the COANG. Missions include Homeland Defense, overseas deployments, and disaster/emergency responses in Colorado and throughout the U.S. The COANG was established in 1923 and was the very first Air National Guard recognized unit. Throughout its history, the Wing has been involved in all major conflicts and contingency operations – deploying hundreds of Airmen all over the world, protecting and supporting our nation, state, and the local community in times of need.
On November 16, the Aurora Chamber’s Defense Council will participate in a joint meeting with the Colorado Springs Military Affairs Council.
