 What We Do & Learn

The Leadership Aurora Board steers the program, develops the curriculum and oversees its success.

Leadership Sessions:

"COMMUNITY TIES AND YOU" - Class members will have the opportunity to learn about the diverse nature of our community. Participation will provide a hands-on learning experience about the services and organizations in our neighborhoods dedicated to the needs of our area residents.

"IN THE LINE OF FIRE" - Class members will be able to examine, participate and distinguish the numerous programs and activities of the police department.

"SCHOOL DAZE" - As a participant, you will learn first hand about these educational offerings. You will visit two schools with a small group of your classmates during the morning of this session. Following the morning site visits, you will have lunch and complete your day with the entire class, review your observations of the morning site visits as well as gather additional information about the educational process in Aurora.

"WHERE DOES IT HURT?" - The mission of this session is to educate class members on local health care issues and national health care industry trends that impact our community and influence business and personal decisions related to health.

"WHEEL OF FORTUNE" - We will challenge the participant to identify and analyze many of the organizations within the city of Aurora's complex economy and infrastructure. Participants will be encouraged to demonstrate a working knowledge of issues related to transportation, economics, and commercial development.

"LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!" - Class members will help you identify what makes a story newsworthy. We will look at the different types of media and how their needs differ. We'll practice the art of "pitching" a story through formal news releases, personal phone calls or fun, creative press kits. Then, you'll have an opportunity to take the spotlight and respond to hard-hitting questions in a press conference format.

"PRIDE & PRESENCE" - It's a jam-packed day -- one you don't want to miss! Class members will the current status of the military in the Aurora community. In addition, learn about the billion dollar economic impact that Buckley puts into the local community.

"WHERE THERE'S SMOKE, THERE'S FIRE" - An emphasis will be placed on understanding these changes to the modern day fire department and the myriad of services now provided by the men and women of the fire service. Topics covered will include the new training methods, safety standards, and approaches to managing the Fire Service. Much of the day will be spent on the Fire Academy Drill Ground experiencing various aspects of actual firefighting duties.
